    These are shorter performances of some of our programs designed to fit into a school assembly period. They include an introduction of the string instruments and explanation of how they have been used in Jazz through its various eras.

    Workshops

    • Playing Jazz on String Instruments
      For middle and high school violin ,viola and cello students. Topics include: jazz phrasing and "swinging the eight notes", how bowing can help playing jazz and improvisation on string instruments.
    • Keep it Swinging
      A workshop for rhythm section instruments, piano, bass, guitar and drums. Students attend separate simultaneous "instrument specific" sessions. Pianists and guitarists with Walter Gwardyak, string and electric bassists with Rick Rozie and drummers with Gene Bozzi. Topics include, creating a true swing feel, time keeping, comping and jazz techniques.
    • Sit in with the Band
      Students taking these workshops may have the opportunity to join the ensemble on stage during the school wide performance.
